Truk Truk Tracks 1971 HARD ROCK BLUES ROCK United States Estados Unidos

Rationals The Rationals 1969 us stunning detroit r n b garage rock 2011 extra tracks remaster At the time of the albums release, Detroit rock was epitomised by the Grande Ballroom and the powerful sounds of the groups associated with it, such as the MC5, Stooges, SRC, Amboy Dukes and Frost. The Rationals were younger than the majority of the musicians in these groups, and they ploughed their own rock/RnB furrow, resisting the heavyweight arrangements deemed mandatory, and eschewing the fashionable hirsute image of the time for a neat, latter-day mod look. Not that the Rationals were unpopular at the high energy Grande far from it. The group appeared as a regular, and no doubt refreshing, alternative to the bluster of many of their harder-edged contemporaries. Their classic 1969 single Guitar Army became an anthem of sorts for Detroit rock, with its universal truth that seemed to have been submerged in the overheated revolutionary rhetoric of the time that the music was the mes...

The Unspoken Word Tuesday April 19th 1968 us wonderful melodic distillation of folk baroque psych rock 2007 extra tracks release The first album from this Long Island-based ensemble was a tuneful and ambitious collection of psychedelic folk-rock tricked out with polished harmonies and arrangements featuring elaborate horn and string charts. If anything, Tuesday, April 19 often sounds a bit too elaborate for its own good; the arrangements certainly reflect the trippy, philosophic bent of Gene Stashuks lyrics (which also suggest a Christian undertow), but fairly often they also tend to overpower them, and on these sessions the Unspoken Word sound more like a studio project than an organic group with a personality of its own.  The irony is this has a great deal to do with the precision with which the Unspoken Word play their music; Angus MacMasters keyboard work is especially impressive, with a striking dynamic sense, and vocalist Dede Puma would have done any number of Broadway music...

Timber Bring America Home 1971 us great rural psych rock with funky vibes 2009 extra tracks issue

Timber Bring America Home 1971 us great rural psych rock with funky vibes 2009 extra tracks issue A curious mix of white-boy boogie-funk and more rural material, reminiscent of Leon Russell and Little Feat, with Wayne Berry apparently the more versatile songwriter: he contributes a couple of the more effective funk-pop tunes, as well as some twangier, more acoustic material, such as the overtly country "Canada" and the softer, folkie ballad, "Dont Underestimate Your Friends." Id say Clinton got into heavier, deeper grooves, though I like Berrys songs better.  Several tracks also feature a third vocalist, Judy Elliott, a more folk-oriented singer who recorded with Timber on both their albums, and later did some work with Hoyt Axton... I find her a little distracting because she seems stylistically out of sync with the blues-rock vocals of the guys, but she helps create a funky feel in their choruses. Also worth noting is the albums political content - the opening tra...
