Mi-a pl?cut at�t de mult poemul acesta �nc�t m-am hot?r�t s? �l traduc pentru voi, cititorii mei, a?a cum m-am priceput mai bine..Sper s? v? pun? ?i pe voi pe g�nduri, cum m-a pus pe mine...?i ce ar putea ilustra mai bine menirea poemului dec�t frumuse?ea, fine?ea ?i delicate?ea picturilor lui Dante Gabriel Rosetti?

YOUTH POEM

Youth is not a time of life - it is a state of mind,
it is a temper of the will,
a quality of the imagination,
a vigor of the emotions,
a predominance of courage over timidity,
of the appetite for adventure over love of ease.

Tinere?ea este o stare de spirit
este o stare a voin?ei,
o calitate a imagina?iei,
o vigoare a emo?iilor,
predominarea curajului �n fa?a timidit??ii,
a apetitului pentru aventur? �n fa?a iubirii de confort.

Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years.
People grow old only by deserting their ideals.
Years wrinkle the skin
But to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.
Worry, doubt, self-distrust,
fear and despair - these are the long,
long years that bow the head and
turn the growing spirit back to dust.

Nimeni nu �mb?tr�ne?te doar tr?ind un num?r de ani
Oamenii �mb?tr�nesc numai dac? �?i p?r?sesc idealurile.
Anii rideaz? pielea,
dar renun?area la entuziasm rideaz? sufletul.
�ngrijorarea, �ndoiala, ne�ncrederea �n sine,
frica ?i disperarea - acestea sunt
anii lungi, lungi care apleac? �n jos capul
?i transform? cre?terea spiritului �n praf.

Whether they are sixteen or seventy,
there is in every beings heart
the love of wonder,
the sweet amazement at the stars
and starlike things and thoughts,
the undaunted challenge of events,
the unfailing childlike appetite
for what is to come next,
and the joy and the game of life.

Dac? are ?aisprezece sau ?aptezeci de ani
�n inima fiec?ruia exist?
iubirea pentru minuni
dulcea uimire a stelelor
provocarea imposibil de descurajat a evenimentelor
apetitul copil?resc de neostoit
de a ?ti ce urmeaz?
?i bucuria ?i jocul vie?ii.

You are as young as your faith,
as old as your doubt;
as young as your self-confidence,
as old as your fear,
as young as your hope,
as old as your despair.
When the wires are all down
and all the innermost core of your heart
is covered with the snows of pessimism
and the ice of cynicism,
then you are grown old indeed.

Tu e?ti tot at�t de t�n?r ca ?i credin?a ta,
tot at�t de t�n?r ca �ncrederea ta �n sine,
tot at�t de b?tr�n ca frica ta,
tot at�t de t�n?r ca speran?a ta,
?i tot at�t de b?tr�n ca disperarea ta.
C�nd tot ce e?ti tu a ajuns jos de tot
?i tot ce este nucleul intern al inimii tale
este acoperit de z?pada pesimismului
?i ghea?a cinismului
atunci ai ajuns cu adev?rat b?tr�n...

But so long as your heart receives messages
of beauty, cheer, courage, grandeur
and power from the earth,
from man and from the Infinite,
so long you are young.

Dar at�ta timp c�t inima ta prime?te mesaje
de frumuse?e, entuziasm, curaj, grandoare
?i de la puterea p?m�ntului;
de la oameni ?i de la Infinit
Atunci e?ti t�n?r...
